ST. GEORGE'S BY THE RIVERS CANTERBURY ART SHOW WILL FEATURE WORKS BY THREE GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS FROM ONE TALENTED FAMILY

Family’s Passion for Art Leads to Creation of Children’s Book

Rumson, NJ (August 21, 2013)  Three generations of artists from one family will be among the 87 artists displaying their

work in St. George’s-by-the-River Church’s Canterbury Art Show…a Tapestry of the Arts, a premier local exhibition and sale

of juried and non-juried artwork.  The three-day event will take place Friday, September 20 from 10am to 5pm, Saturday,

September 21 from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, September 22 from 12pm to 4pm.   The event will take place at St. George’sby-the-River church, 7 Lincoln Avenue, Rumson.

Ten year-old Mikayla Houston, of Holmdel, along with her Mother, Nicole Houston, and Grandmother, Denise Weiner, will all

display their work in the show.  Mikaya has inherited a passion for art from the lessons she has learned from her mother and

grandmother.   “An artist creates art, meets new people, helps others and ultimately changes the world,” said Denise

Weiner.   She’s taught her daughter and grandaughters that our world is made more beautiful and complete because of the

art they create and share with the world.  Weiner feels so strongly about the power of art that she has written a book,  Art

Lessons from Grandma.  The book invites you on a journey with 8 year-old Mikayla as she shares her love of art and the life

lessons that came naturally from each art experience with her Grandma. As Mikayla grows through her toddler, pre-school

and early school years she learns about self esteem, encouragement, diversity, teamwork and the importance of creative

pursuit.   Tooddlers will learn about about colors, creative expression and famous artists along with Mikayla.  Pre-schoolers

will enjoy Mikayla’s memories of hands-on experiences with many different art materials.  Older children will see how

Mikayla becomes a teacher and cheerleader for her friends and family.  The book is now available on Amazon.com.

All proceeds from the Canterbury Art Show directly benefit St. George’s-by-the-River and its Outreach Grants to more than

30 local agencies serving the needy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Lunch Break, Family Promise, HABcore,

180 Turning Lives Around’s Amanda’s Easel Art Therapy program and more.
