Headlines making their way around the fishing community report that a monster 81.88 pound Striped Bass has been caught in Connecticut waters and weighed in.
This striper, caught on Friday, August 5, 2011, outweighs the current world record fish caught in Atlantic City, NJ in 1982 by three pounds. Landed on a 6 foot, 6 inch St Croix tuna rod by angler Greg Myerson aboard his boat One More Drift, this behemoth bass would be the new world record fish once confirmed by the IGFA (International Game Fishing Association).
A detailed account of the battle, which left the angler with bruised ribs, can be found at onthewater.com.
Photos of the awe-inspiring fish that have been surfacing on the internet from local sources are almost too amazing be be true. Following is a photo (r) of the current record holder caught by Al Stromski, showing the weight of that fish as 78 pounds and 8 ounces. On the left is the fish caught on Friday.
